To commemorate World Mental Health Day, Department of Psychiatry, Department of Clinical Psychology and DMCH College of Nursing organized an awareness talk today at DMCH OPD Block and Reception area of Hero DMC Heart Institute. This year theme for the day is ‘Mental Health is a Universal Human Right’. Mental health is a basic human right for all people. Everyone, whoever and wherever they are, has a right to the highest attainable standard of mental health. In his message, Secretary DMCH Managing Society, Bipin Gupta appreciated the efforts of all the faculty members for conducting this awareness session for the public and highlighted that good mental health plays crucial role to our overall health and well-being. Principal Dr Sandeep Puri, said that the main purpose to commemorate this day is to create awareness among the masses about mental health. ‘There is still stigma regarding mental health issues, highlighted Dr Puri. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ranjive Mahajan, Professor and Head Department of Psychiatry said that, that mental health issues are treatable with prompt diagnosis. ‘Early and effective treatment leads to better outcomes and helping a person to lead a normal life’ said Dr Mahajan. Dr B P Mishra, Professor and Head, Department of Clinical Psychology, DMCH urged the public to understand the value of mental health and to speak up about mental health issues. Further Dr Mishra said that, mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. Dr (Mrs) Triza Jiwan, Principal DMCH College of Nursing said that a person’s mental and physical well-being is equally important. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being that affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices highlighted Dr Triza Jiwan. Poster making competition was organized by the Nursing students of DMC College of Nursing and winners were awarded with the prize. A role play on Mental Health was also demonstrated by the students of BSc. Nursing and MSc. Nursing and M. Phil. Clinical Psychology students to express the importance of mental health.
