Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit on Tuesday participated in the virtual inauguration of the 401-Km long Sahnewal to New Khurja section of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) at the new Khanna railway station. The section of EDFC was dedicated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing from Ahmedabad. Speaking at the event held in the New Khanna railway station, Governor Purohit praised the project, stating that it would accelerate the development of the country by facilitating high-speed goods trains. He stated that the Dedicated Freight Corridor is a high-speed and high-capacity railway corridor meant exclusively for the transportation of freight or goods and commodities.
The Governor emphasized that this project would reduce the logistic cost, increase the speed, and enhance the safety of freight movement, as well as generating employment opportunities and attracting investments in various sectors. Prominent attendees of the event included Khanna MLA Tarunpreet Singh Sond, Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney, SSP Amneet Kondal, ADC Rupinder Pal Singh, and others.
