Directs collaborative efforts by health, MCs, rural development department in schools/villages/urban areas
Ludhiana (Rajkumar Sathi). Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney on Monday directed the officials of education department to ensure availability of clean water in the schools. Presiding over a meeting in her office, the Deputy Commissioner stated that water sampling drive is being carried out expeditiously in the district and the education officials must give topmost priority on ensuring functional RO system or potable water to the school children. She also asked them to get check their RO systems installed in the schools through headmasters/principals and submit action taken report. Action would be taken against any school or public place that is not ensuring compliance. Sawhney mentioned that a special drive is being conducted to keep the water & vector borne diseases at bay in Ludhiana. She pointed out that the teams of MCs and health along with rural development have been entrusted to ensure daily water sampling in their areas. Special teams have also been set up for sampling and taking action against unclean food in stalls, sweet shops and restaurants. Fogging schedules are also to be strictly adhered to. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to combat these diseases and every effort is being made by the district administration in this regard. She mentioned that Ludhiana is a district where the highest samples have been procured throughout Punjab. She also spoke about 100% pre-monsoon water sampling already taken. She asked the officials to remain vigilant about the areas where samples are being found unfit for drinking. The Deputy Commissioner also spoke that fogging is also being conducted in high-risk areas and close surveillance is being kept. Besides, chlorination of all the water supplies being run by MC and the water supply department is being done regularly.
