The Department of Dietetics and Paediatrics, DMCH in association with IDA Punjab Chapter organized the 6th Annual Nutrition Meet today on “Nourishing Our Roots” with the aim to discuss the optimum nutritional practices in critically ill patients. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Prem Kumar Gupta, Secretary DMCH Managing Society. The conference was attended by over 200 Dietitians from the North region. Dietitians Ms.Anuja Agarwala from AIIMS New Delhi, Dr. Lekha Sreedharan from Apollo Hospital Chennai and Ms. Priti Arolkar from Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai enlightened the delegates with the recent advances in the Nutritional management of critical diseases. Secretary DMCH Managing Society, Sh.Prem Kumar Gupta said “Nutrition and Food play a key role in both keeping us healthy and helping to manage disease which is why it is imperative to upgrade our healthcare professionals about the role of nutrition in patient care.” Prinicpal, Dr.Sandeep Puri in his address stated that Mindful eating is essential as it helps one to stay in shape and keep various diseases, allergies at bay. Congratulating the team, he stated that such nutritional conferences bridge the gap between knowledge & effective interventions. In addition, IAPEN India- Ludhiana Chapter was launched and the newly formed president Dr. Vivek Kumar Gupta took this opportunity to ensure that nutrition becomes everyone’s responsibility and shape the organization towards a bright future. A tree’s root-fullness, depends on its fruitfulness & the sweetness of the fruit depends on the ‘Nourishing of the Root’ said Shaveta Batta (RD), Chief Dietitian, DMCH. She added that in order to nourish your roots, you have to ask yourself “What are the habits that I need to cultivate to nourish the roots that will produce that fruit?” The earlier you start, the better it is. Small changes can potentially add years to your life.
