Sepsis awareness program was held in the OPD block of DMC&H, Ludhiana to promote Sepsis awareness and prevention in general public, keeping in with theme of Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM) for the year, “Prevent, Treat, Defeat Sepsis”. The event was organized by Ludhiana Branch of ISCCM and Department of Critical Care Medicine, along with Infection control team. Dr Sandeep Puri Principal DMC&H, appreciated the efforts of Department of Critical Care Medicine for conducting this awareness session about sepsis as this year will be commemorated as ‘Sepsis Control’. In his message, Dr PL Gautam, Head Critical Care Medicine (CCM), said that Sepsis awareness is important for both healthcare professionals and the general public that every 3 seconds one death occurs because of sepsis. Dr Gunchan Paul, Professor CCM, Chair of Ludhiana Branch of ISCCM, talked about its prevention. She enforced that we can defeat sepsis by its timely recognition and prevention of any infection reaching into irreversible stage of sepsis. Dr Pramod Sood, Professor CCM, Secretary, Ludhiana Branch of ISCCM addressed the gathering highlighting the risk factors and early signs and symptoms of sepsis. Infection control nurses demonstrated proper ways of hand hygiene to the public emphasizing on the methods to prevent spread of infections. This structured program developed by Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine has been launched nationwide to prevent, treat and defeat sepsis. Theme was chosen to decrease the death and sickness from sepsis and sepsis related complications.The importance of prevention of sepsis by adhering to hand hygiene, social distancing, environment cleanliness, early identification of sign &symptoms of infection was reinforced in interaction with the patients and attendants present there in an interactive session.
