Arora terms Beauscape Farms as “Shalimar Bagh” of Punjab

Ludhiana (Deepak Sathi). MP (Rajya Sabha) Sanjeev Arora along with family and friends visited Beauscape Farms at Langrian Village in the Malerkotla district on Thursday. Beauscape Farms belongs to a Ludhiana resident Avtar Singh Dhindsa who got his education in Floriculture from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. Dhindsa apprised Arora that he had set up this farm in the year 1985 after completing his education. Beauscape Farms is known for seed production and export for flower and vegetable seeds across the world. Presently, Dhindsa is exporting more than 650 varieties of flowers to Europe and USA including Netherlands and Holland which are popular for their flowers. Even today also, some company officials from US had visited Dhindsa’s farm in connection with some commercial deal. Further, Dhindsa apprised Arora that 17 varieties of flowers developed by him have been given worldwide recognition. Dhindsa has been cultivating flowers and vegetables on a land measuring about 3,500 acres across the country including Punjab, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh. Of the total agricultural land, he has about 110 acres of land at Langrian Village in Punjab where flowers of different varieties are grown.

Even at present, rare varieties of flowers including Limonium Suworowii are seen growing in the fields of his farm. Dhindsa also imparts voluntarily training in horticulture, especially in flower cultivation, to farmers of the state to enable them to go for diversification of crops and earn much more per acre compared to cash crops. Arora was apprised that Bollywood producer Yash Chopra had shoot a song of his Hindi film `Veer Zaara’ – a romantic drama at Beauscape Farms in the year 2006. The actors Shahrukh Khan and Preity Zinta had come at this site for shooting of the song after which this farm had come into a great limelight. Interestingly, both Arora and his wife had photographed in the fields of colorful flowers today. On the occasion, Arora said this was his first visit to Beauscape Farms which he termed as “Shalimar Bagh” of Punjab. He said people especially farmers and horticulturists of Punjab must visit this site for getting first-hand information about a successful venture of Dhindsa. He said it is really a proud feat for Punjab that Beauscape Farms has won numerous National and International Awards over the period. Arora said there is a need to promote horticulture in Punjab because this is a very profitable venture for the farmers. He said Dhindsa has apprised him that a farmer could earn 3-7 times more from the cultivation of flowers compared to paddy and wheat. He said time has arrived when farmers of the state should go for crop diversification. He said crop diversification would not only give more income to farmers but also save underground water. He congratulated Dhindsa for his successful venture and promoting horticulture in Punjab and other parts of the country. Ludhiana-based lawyer, author and nature artist Harpreet Sandhu who was also accompanying said he always feel proud of Avtar Singh Dhindsa for his colossal dedicated hard work in making Punjab placed on world map towards export of flower seeds. Among others, Dhindsa’s wife Guddy Dhindsa and Ludhiana-based industrialist Ritesh Arora, were also present on the occasion.
