The death of Mrs. Tej Kaur Dardi, a former teacher at SCD Govt College Ludhiana who expired on 7th March at the age of 95 was mourned by her students and teachers of the college alike with great reverence. Mrs Dardi has been a very popular motherly teacher for her students. Principal (Retd.) Prof. Ashok Kapoor in his message said, “The sad demise of our revered colleague, Prof. Mrs Tej Kaur Dardi , is a big loss to our academic fraternity. She was an accomplished lady of many virtues, occupying a special position as an amiable, courteous, urbane, literary figure. She was held high in esteem by her students as well as her peers”. Others who mourned her death include Shri Surjit Bhagat, Shri Harjeet Singh, Shri S S Bhogal, S. Amarjit Singh Tikka, Mr Brij Bhushan Goyal ,Mrs Preeti Kumari, Prof. Mandeep Randhawa, Prof. Rashmi Verma, Prof. Sarita Matta, A former Principal Jasbeer K. Makkar ,Prof.P K Sharma, Shri K B Singh, Prof P D Gupta ,Prof. Gurbhajan Gill, a Punjabi poet and Principal Dr. Tanvir Likahari. As per information gathered by Brij Bhushan Goyal, Alumni Association, Organizing Secretary, Mrs. Dardi taught Punjabi for 44 long years and prepared hundreds of students for proficiency in the language and for inspiring them to write. She participated in poetic recitation of All India Radio in the 1960s. Her poetry was published in an Urdu Magazine Panj Darya Published in Pakistan. She also edited a book on Haqiquat Rai in 1963 which was published by Sahitya Academy in 1996 and its 2nd edition was again published in 2014. She also wrote memoirs of the Indo-Pakistan 1947 divide which were published by Punjabi Daily Ajit in many series. This writeup was later included in the book “Ahlnioun Digei Bot” later by Gurpreet Singh of Sangrur. Punjabi Sahit Academy too published her articles many times. She was honored by Punjabi Sahit Academy with Prof. Nripjit Award in 2015 , where she gave back an award amount of 21000/- for Punjabi language promotion. She was also honored with the Giani Ditt Singh Award by Govt College for girls. She was also awarded by Panjab University, Chandigarh in the year 2011 ,being the first woman of first batch of students for the year 1948. In the same year, she was awarded with Prof Dhami Award by “Alagg Shabad Yog” a literary society. Late Shri Ram Narain Singh Dardi her husband too was a prominent literary personality in his times . Prof. Harpreet Singh Dua of GGN College, Ludhiana, a son of Mrs. Tej Kaur Dardi said their mother was about to complete her autobiography even at the age of 95 when she died. He will get this published soon. Mrs. Dardi’s ‘Antim Ardaas Bhog ‘ceremony is slated for 14th March,2024 at Ludhiana.
